Most visitors arrive at Victoria Falls by air, though the town can also be reached by road. Here is what to know when planning your arrival and choosing where to stay.

Victoria Falls International Airport

The Airports Company of Zimbabwe places Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) about 21 km south-east of town. That is the distance to town, not to every hotel, so your accommodation may be farther. The airport handles regional flights, most commonly through Johannesburg, as well as domestic flights within Zimbabwe. Routes and airlines change, so check current schedules with the airlines.

Most hotels and lodges can arrange an airport transfer, or you can request a transfer or hire car through us. Get a quotation for your exact property rather than relying on a general town price. There is little reason to stay near the airport itself unless you have a very early flight.

What to Send With a Transfer Request

  • Airport, flight number, arrival date and landing time
  • Accommodation name and address
  • Number of adults and children, including children's ages
  • Luggage and any mobility needs
  • Return flight details if you need both directions

Flying Into Livingstone, Zambia

Livingstone, on the Zambian side of the Falls, has its own airport. Travellers flying into Livingstone can cross into Zimbabwe over the Victoria Falls Bridge. This involves a border crossing, so allow time and check visa requirements. See Zimbabwe or Zambia?

By Road

Victoria Falls is linked by road to Bulawayo and to Hwange National Park to the south-east, and to the Kazungula border area, where Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia meet. Self-drive travellers should check road conditions, fuel availability and border requirements before setting out.

Visas and Entry

Entry requirements depend on your nationality. Some travellers can use the KAZA UNIVISA, which covers Zimbabwe and Zambia and qualifying day trips into Botswana through Kazungula. It is not available to everyone. Check eligibility, fees and entry points with the official immigration services before you travel.

Getting Around Town

Destination guidance describes the town centre as walkable in daylight. Wildlife roams freely around the town, so keep your distance from animals and ask your accommodation about the safest route or transport for evening journeys. Taxis are available, and many activity operators collect guests from their accommodation.

Money

US dollars are widely used in Victoria Falls. Confirm with your accommodation and operators which payment methods they accept.

Next: decide where to stay, or find a place that fits your trip.
