Build your trip around your interests rather than trying to fit every activity into one visit. Operators offer Falls tours, Zambezi cruises, scenic flights, rafting, gorge activities and safari excursions.

See the Falls

Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1989. UNESCO describes a curtain of falling water about 1,708 metres wide. On the Zimbabwe side, a walking trail through the rainforest in Victoria Falls National Park leads to a series of viewpoints facing the Falls. How much you see depends on the season: at high water the spray can hide parts of the Falls, while at low water you see more of the rock face. See our guide to the best time to visit.

Zambezi River Cruises

Sunset cruises on the upper Zambezi, above the Falls, are one of the most popular activities. Many leave from jetties upstream of town and are a chance to see hippos, crocodiles and birdlife.

Wildlife and Safari

Game drives in Zambezi National Park can be arranged from town. Many visitors also take a day trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana, which involves a border crossing.

Hwange Safari Extensions

Hwange offers a longer wildlife addition within Zimbabwe; ZimParks identifies it as the country's largest national park. Main Camp is one specific destination: Wild Horizons estimates about 2½ to 3 hours' driving to its gate from Victoria Falls, depending on conditions. Other camps need their own transfer plan. Consider an overnight extension if a long day on the road would spoil the experience.

Livingstone Island and Devil's Pool

These are Zambia-side experiences. Guided Livingstone Island visits are seasonal and depend on water levels, and Devil's Pool access depends on conditions too. Confirm the exact experience offered for your date and arrange any border crossing needed from Zimbabwe. Island access is not a promise that Devil's Pool will be open. See Zimbabwe or Zambia?

Local Culture, Dining and Shopping

Leave room to explore local businesses and cultural experiences, including the craft markets in town. Ask who organises a visit, what it includes and whether photography is welcome.

Plan Activities Around Your Stay

Many operators collect guests from accommodation in and around town. If you are staying outside town, check transfer arrangements before you book. Prices, schedules and age or health requirements vary by operator, so confirm details directly. Where we promote a third-party operator commercially, we say so; see our Commission Disclosure.

Next: try the three-day itinerary, or find accommodation that suits your plans.
